The Sky is Broken is the soundtrack for a psychedelic horror film project that doesn't exist.
Maia lives an isolated and off grid life in Northern Ontario, surrounded by forest. While chopping wood one day, the world begins to shift around her. Foliage breathing and deforming just at the edges of her vision. Subtle, but persistent.
As she's beginning to question herself, a delirious man emerges from the trees. He has an infected trepanation wound in his skull. A part of his brain is exposed underneath a mat of hair, blood, and pus. The man collapses while screaming gibberish.
This far away from the nearest town, Maia has few options. She takes him in, treats his wound, and manages to stabilize him with some antibiotics. His fever eventually breaks and he regains some lucidity.
He warns her that there's something terribly wrong. The sky is broken and something is coming through. The old gods are returning.
She dismisses him as still delirious. He insists it's true. He can show her. He can help her understand.
All she needs is a hole in her skull to match the one in his.
